§ 9.90.030. Reward fund.

Latest version.
  • A maximum reward of five thousand dollars shall be budgeted yearly into each fiscal year budget of the Delano police department and placed into a trust fund. Any funds remaining in the reward fund not expended at the end of the fiscal year budget shall be carried over into the next fiscal year, and an additional allocation of five thousand dollars shall be added to the reward fund. This procedure shall continue until the reward fund balance reaches, but does not exceed twenty thousand dollars. Once the reward fund has reached twenty thousand dollars no additional funds shall be placed into the fund until such time as the fund balance falls below that amount, but not until the next fiscal year budget allocations are made.

Private reward funds raised by the community, businesses, or other groups shall not be co-mingled with public funds and will not be accepted or administered by the city. However, the chief of police, or his designee, may, after the conviction of the responsible person(s) for the offenses related to the specific investigation for which the reward was offered, and with the written consent of the person who provided such information that would qualify for the reward payment, provide such person's name to the private reward fund group for payment of any reward funds collected by the group upon the request for the person's name by the group offering such reward.
